1. put the ipod on shuffle
2. use it to answer the question
3. hit “next”
4. try not to cheat

I decided to use a slightly different method. I’m using the last twenty tracks which appear in iTunes as “recently played,” after I sync my iPod touch. For some reason, this list doesn’t include the most recent tracks but it does include a series of tracks which played in sequence, last night. I was brewing and my iPod touch was in shuffle. It all sounds less random than the original rules would make it but I decided on that method before using it. Not intention of cheating or tweaking the results. After all, there’s no such as a guilty pleasure, in music.

(I got my replies through looking up the five most recently played or printed pieces from four different sources: 1. iTunes, 2. The mobile phone, 3. The notation program Sibelius, 4. The music streaming service Spotify.)

1 How am I feeling today? Dissolving (MaLj, EAM sound composition)
2 How far will I get in life? Penelope working at the loom (MaLj, EAM from vocal improvisation)
3 What is my best friend’s theme song? Addiction (Alex Shapiro)
4 What was high school like? Blondels Lied (Blondel’s Song, Robert Schumann)
5 How will today be? Harmoni (Desafinado by Jobim, Swedish version by MaLj).
6 What is in store for me this weekend? Well You Needn’t (T. Monk, played by Samir Fejzic band)
7 What is the best thing about me? Ecstatic Regret (MW Morse)
8 What song describes my parents? April in Paris Again (Barry Booth)
9 How is my life going? Crying To Get Out (Barry Booth)
10 What song will they play at my funeral? Let’s Do Lunch (Barry Booth)
11 How does the world see me? In the Bleak Midwinter (G Holst)
12 What do my friends think of me? Vårvisa (Spring song from Piae Cantiones 1582)
13 Do people secretly think I’m good looking? Trollkarlen från Indialand (The magician from India, H-Å Gäfvert/ L Hellsing)
14 How can I make myself happy? Kinderstück (Piano piece for children, E Toch)
15 What should I do with my life? Lady M pays a visit to a painter (from Sonata Something) (MaLj)
16 What is some good advice? Be (Neil Diamond)
17 Will I get married? I’m a Believer (the Monkees),
18 Where will I go in life? Steppin’ Stone (the Monkees)
19 Will I have kids? Please Don’t Sell Nova Scotia (Anne Murray)
20 What is my current theme song? Prologue (Neil Diamond)

I think these pieces say a LOT about me and my life! At least, it says something about my current musical projects. I have been transcribing and arranging piano music for young pianists, and I have looked at ideas for EAM compositions; I have learned how to send mp3 files to the mobile phone; and I have participated in a couple of music related blog challenges…

If your life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be? So, here’s how it works:

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, etc).
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press Play.
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the Next button.
6. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool.
7. Don’t skip songs.

18 When people are walking out of the theatre: “So Long Ago” (instrumental demoversion) – Barry Booth
